Every year on October 12, Armenia celebrates Anti-Smoking Day.

At a meeting on December 18, 2008, the Armenian government decided to declare October 12 as National Tobacco Control Day.

Armenian then Minister of Health Hayk Darbinyan noted that the fight against the tobacco epidemic is one of the priority areas of public health throughout the world, including in Armenia.

According to statistics, at present about 30% of the adult population of Armenia are smokers, while about 60% of smokers are the breadwinners of their families. That is why the fight against smoking in our country is one of the most important public health problems. And the Anti-Smoking Day itself is marked by numerous events to educate the public about the dangers of smoking and how to quit smoking.
