Today is Day of Remembrance and Grief - Day of Great Patriotic War outbreak

Early in the morning of June 22, 1941, without a declaration of war, fascist Germany attacked the Soviet Union, dealing a massive blow to military and strategic sites and many cities. Thus the Great Patriotic War began, which lasted for 1418 days and nights, and in which the USSR lost about 27 million people, but was able to survive.

The Great Patriotic War was an integral part and the main content of the entire WW2, in which more than 60 states were involved. The war was conducted on vast spaces of Europe, Asia and Africa, on the sea and ocean expanses.

In a heavy bloody war, the Soviet people made a decisive contribution to the liberation of the peoples of Europe from fascist domination and the defeat of Hitler's troops. On May 8, 1945, the final Act on the unconditional surrender of fascist Germany and its armed forces was signed.

The Great Patriotic War ended with the victory of the USSR, but at what cost ?! At the cost of human suffering and huge losses that fell to the lot of the Soviet people.

In the countries of the post-Soviet space, on June 22, the state flags are lowered and they recall this war and those who died in it. On this day, various memorable events are held with the lighting of candles, laying flowers to monuments and memorials.

Citizens of many post-Soviet republics honor the memory of compatriots, relatives and friends who fought for the freedom of the motherland.
