US President Donald Trump said that if Tehran wants to begin negotiations with Washington, he will positively accept this proposal. This statement was made by the American leader on May 26 after a bilateral meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

"Trump says he will talk if Iran wants to talk, adding he believes Tehran "would like to talk". Nobody wants to see terrible things happen, especially me," said Trump, following a joint meeting with Shinzo Abe in Japan", China Global Television Network reports.

In May 2018, the United States decided to withdraw from the Joint Comprehensive Action Plan (IFAP), which lifts sanctions against Iran in exchange for the country's refusal of nuclear development. Trump suspected Tehran of failing to comply with the terms of the deal and announced its intention to resume restrictions, including secondary ones.
